Service Learning - The Home of Service Learning on the World Wide Web
The purpose of this site is to serve as a virtual guide to, and library of, service-learning. Its primary focus is service-learning in higher education. This site is run through the University of Colorado at Boulder

National Service Learning Clearinghouse
The Learn and Serve America National Service-Learning Clearinghouse (NSLC) supports the service-learning community in higher education, kindergarten through grade twelve, community-based initiatives and tribal programs, as well as all others interested in strengthening schools and communities using service-learning techniques and methodologies.

Learn and Serve
Learn and Serve America supports service-learning programs in schools and community organizations that help nearly one million students from kindergarten through college meet community needs, while improving their academic skills and learning the habits of good citizenship.

Education (Issues in Service)

Hunger and Homelessness

  • Heifer International-Heifer was founded on a simple belief: ending hunger begins with giving people the means to feed themselves.

  • World Food Programs -WFP works to put hunger at the center of the international agenda, promoting policies, strategies and operations that directly benefit the poor and hungry.

Violence (Domestic, youth, urban)

  • National Coalition Against Domestic Violence - Dedicated to the elimination of personal and societal violence in the lives of women and their children. Site provides resources to local coalitions and other organizations.

  • Family Violence Awareness Page - Devoted to helping eliminate all family violence (including child abuse) and to providing information about services.

  • Childabuse.org - dedicated to breaking the cycle of child abuse and neglect, serving and strengthening children and families.

  • Child Abuse- Statistics, Research, and Resources - scholarly discussion of statistics, and a bibliography on memory.

  • Urban Peace -Right to enjoy life free of the fear of violence and crime.


  • Coalition to take on urban violence - Coalition to take on urban violence: Black-on-black crime is group's focus.

Education/Literacy

  • Literacy.org - Joint project from the National Center on Adult Literacy and the International Literacy Institute. Provides national leadership in research and development in the field of adult literacy.

  • National Institute for Literacy - Strives to ensure that all Americans with literacy needs have access to services that can help them gain the basic skills necessary for success.


  • National Center for Family Literacy Homepage - NCFL is recognized nationally and internationally as the leader in family literacy. The Family literacy can change your life.

  • U.S. Department of Education
  • -Department of Education website provides information on policy, resources, research and statistics, as well as, the No Child Left Behind program.


  • National Education Association- volunteer-based organization composed of public school educators. Founded in 1857, the group works to advance the cause of public education.

Racial Issues

  • Race Relations - stories from PBS's Online Newshour concerning issues of race.
  • HateWatch - combating and containing online bigotry. Site features an activist center, chat, and a directory of hate sites. Home to the domain adoption program that aims prevent hate groups from getting domain names they'd like to have.

Environment

  • Pollution Online- offers news, resources, and business listings for the prevention industry.
  • EnviroLink - dedicated to providing the most comprehensive, up-to-date environmental resources available. Includes current environmental news, local opportunities for activism, OneWorld Magazine, and forums to discuss environmental issues.

Gender/Women's issues

  • American Civil Liberties Union- Women's Rights: Women's Rights Issues, General Criminal Justice, Discrimination, Violence, Education, Employment, Poverty/Welfare, Pregnancy/Parenting.
  • Women's Issues- The starting place to find extensive resources, links, features, news, information, support and community relating to women and women's issues!
Substance Abuse

Immigrant Issues

  • Coaliton on Human Needs - Recent immigrants to the United States tend to face economic and social hardships at rates disproportionately greater than the rest of the population.

Peacemaking/Non-Violence

  • Peace Action - promotes grassroots activism for nuclear disarmament, an end to weapons trafficking, just economy, a democratic foreign policy, and an informed electorate.
  • United For Peace - collaboration of national and international peace and social justice organizations and local places of worship, peace centers, and community organizations.
  • Nonviolence Web - home to many of the United States' most dynamic nonviolence groups.
  • Non-Violence Project - teaching alternatives to violent behaviour, and motivating and engaging young people in positive action to make our communities safer and healthier.
